Tree Pruning

Trees contribute greatly to the natural beauty of our town. But, if not properly managed, they can create power outages or hazardous situations by touching or even falling on the power lines.

We have contracted the Town of Oakville’s Urban Forestry Services to conduct regularly scheduled tree maintenance across Oakville.

The town ensures that trees in each of the three zones of our service territory are pruned responsibly on a three-year cycle to ensure safety and maintain the integrity of the natural surroundings. To complete all areas in the allotted time, the town may need to contract the help of private, specialized tree experts. These private contractors will be pruning trees with the same care and precision as the town.

Winter 2012 Pruning – Zone 3

This year, the town will prune trees in Zone 3 to ensure the safety and security of the hydro supply. We need to ensure safe clearance between hydro wires and any nearby trees. Certified arborists, who are part of the pruning team, will ensure that the health and overall well-being of the trees is respected. Where the hydro lines are located in rear lots, the forestry team will need to gain access through your property.

Trees growing in close proximity to Oakville Hydro’s power lines will be pruned as per the 1998 Electricity Act of Ontario.

Special Situations

If one of the town's forestry staff notices a hazardous tree on your property that needs to be removed or requires special care (including further pruning or large branch removal, cabling or wrapping), you will be notified.

As the property owner, you are responsible for maintaining the trees on your property and on notification of a tree problem, you must secure your own Certified Tree Contractor to remove the tree or complete the special care.

You must maintain your trees and other vegetation to ensure your safety, the safety of your family, property and the power lines as per the Town of Oakville's By-Law 2007-100 Section 5.1.1.2.
